#1 - Cakebread Cellers - Savignon Blanc
A cult favorite, Cakebread Cellars has been turning out Napa Valley favorites for more than thirty years including this mouthwatering Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes come from top vineyards throughout Napa Valley, including, from south to north, Estate ranches in Carneros, Suscol Springs, Rutherford and Calistoga. The exceptional fruit from these sites produces a rich, complex Sauvignon Blanc that is simultaneously fresh, crisp and zesty.
Winemaker's Notes - Grapes are harvested during the cool nighttime hours to fully capture their fresh, pure flavors and vibrant acidity. Whole-cluster-pressing of the fruit under anaerobic conditions maximizes varietal intensity while minimizing the extraction of astringent compounds from the skins.
The wine is fermented in lots, 95% in stainless steel tanks and 5% in concrete eggs. After fermentation the wine is aged for 5 months; 64% in neutral French oak, 32% in stainless steel tanks, and 4% in concrete eggs
The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc opens with aromas of pink grapefruit, lemon curd, fresh pear, melon, and passionfruit. Flavors of citrus, kiwi, and lemon zest give way to more subtle hints of mango, guava, and pineapple. Crisp and refreshing, this light-bodied wine beautifully balances concentrated fruit flavors and lively acidity with a gently textured mineral finish.
