Broccoli with Sesame


  • 1 pound fresh broccoli
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 3 tablespoons peanut or vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup sliced water chestnuts
  • 3 tablespoons white wine
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Trim off large leaves of broccoli, and remove tough ends of lower stalks. Wash broccoli thoroughly. Cut away tops, and set aside. Cut stalks into 1/4-inch slices; set aside.

Toast sesame seeds in an electric wok or skillet; remove and set aside. Pour oil into wok; heat at 325° for 3 minutes. Add garlic; stir-fry briefly. Add broccoli stalks; stir-fry 5 minutes. Add water chestnuts, wine, soy sauce, salt and broccoli tops; stir well.

Cover and cook 5 minutes; sprinkle sesame seeds over top.
